Abstract

Flow forming is an incremental forming process widely used used to reduce thickness of the tubes. Compared ot machining it improves the strength. It is extensively used for manufacturing of components used for aerospace and automobile applications. How ever, the surface finish and the deformations after removal from the mandrel due to residual stresses are the important concerns of this process. So in the present work experimental investigations are carried out the relative effect of the most important parameters; stagger and the feed rate and their combined effect on the surface finish of the tube formed by flow forming process. Experiments are carried out on SAE 4130 Steel using L4 orthogonal array. Column effect method is used to find the most influential parameter, plotting method is used for finding the interaction between the parameters and finally ANOVA is used to ascertain results obtained by the former methods.
